About Us
The Church of England Evangelical Council (CEEC) was first created by John Stott in 1960 to provide a “collective” evangelical voice within the Church of England.
Local groups of evangelicals from different networks, sometimes known as Diocesan Evangelical Fellowships, have been set-up, united by a common vision to promote and maintain orthodox evangelical theology and ethics at the heart of the Church of England.
The Evangelical Fellowship for the Portsmouth Diocese was established a few years ago but is now being re-launched as PEN. We are now looking to engage across evangelical network streams and expand our clergy and lay membership. PEN aims to bring together Anglican evangelicals in friendship to:
-
Unite in biblically based ministry, with a commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and a real desire to keep in step with the Spirit in service of our God;
-
Continue to work for a diocesan and national church that loves and preaches the whole counsel of God in an area and nation where millions remain unreached with the good news of Jesus Christ;
-
Speak with a clear, faithful, gracious, united and wise voice on matters of importance to evangelicals and of biblical concern.
PEN exists to bring together evangelicals within the Diocese of Portsmouth to help us be effective in extending the Kingdom of God in our Diocese, southern Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. We have four aims:
-
To represent the views of evangelicals to the bishop and diocesan staff.
-
To encourage evangelicals to stand for election to synods and to diocesan boards and committees.
-
To provide a place for dialogue between evangelicals so that we may hold together on what is essential.
-
To hold meetings where clergy and laity meet together to consider issues of common interest and to encourage one another.
